On a typical red painted PA engine block, should the oil return pipes be engine color or left unpainted (and often polished) as I see on many restored cars?

Hello, Peter.
Pipes were left in their natural state and look rather impressive and beautiful when polished!

Cheers,
Chris

Hmmm …. this picture from the Motor Sport road test of a production J2 would suggest that the oil drain pipes were painted. I can’t imagine the P Type engine was any different.
