Does anyone know who made the CK Spares "Club" crankshafts?

Ask Philip B-P but I think it was Guildford Engineering.

No, I don't think it was Guildford Engineering. I am sure (or fairly sure) that it was David Something Camshafts but I cannot remember what the "something" is. It will probably come back to me later today.

My last remaining brain call has finally woken up after a lie-in today. The name I was groping for is David Newman Camshafts. Based in Kent and still in business as far as I can tell.

David Newman are a brilliant camshaft manufacturer but not sure if they ever made crankshafts.
I think there may have been another company near Guildford who also made the club cranks but believe they went out of business.

I wonder if David Newman was related in some way to John Newman of Phoenix Crankshafts?

Phil B-P is the only person who can give full chapter and verse about the Club cranks, but I don't think that he is active on the MMM Forum. I was only involved on the fringes of C.K. Spares but seem to recall that David Newman were branching outa bit from their usual work and they had to restrict there production to the smaller 4 cylinder shafts.
Eventually, Gordon Allen moved in to continue the manufacture of MMM shafts and his firm eventually developed into Phoenix. At the time Laystall were still willing to run off small batches of very high quality crankshafts - at a price. The names of Laystall and Gordon Allen still appear in the world of crank makers, but I believe that they are nothing to do with the original firms.

Colin, sounds as if you and I need to collar Phil B.P at the next pub meeting.
I have raised this topic before as I have one of the later batch in my J2. I understand the earlier batches were somewhat suspect. I also believe Nigel Musselwhite was involved at some stage.
I certainly believed mine was made by Guildford Autos, but can’t remember where that info came from.

Slightly off at a tangent, who would have done camshafts for CK. I still have somewhere a P one re-profiled to NE spec.

Phil (and Rosemary) might be at Brands on Sunday. If so, we can ask him.

As Philip B/P has some books for sale on this forum perhaps he may see this.
