Stewart Tate... Happy memories... I first met Stewart when I was tasked with ‘curing’ the oil into the radiator of a 1938 MG TA, I approached Stewart and as they say, the rest is history... I became a regular visitor to his home in Leeds and subsequently his workshop on the top of a Mill in Silsden. Stewert was his own worst enemy with so much work ahead of him and seeminly not enough hours in the day to complete his tasks. I ended up working with him for at least a year, without any pay, but the use of a cottage and as much learning as I could absorb...! Mentioned above are references to his N Types, Dad bought one that he was building at home, we completede it and ran it for many years before it was sold to Barry Walker and onto where... (does anyone here now own YJ3675..? ). Another car mentioned by Tony is the Triumph Gloria Six... we still own this car and I was only talking today about getting it out agian this year.. :-) The aforementioned TA also came into my ownership some 43 years ago and again, I still have this car (DTC97), it now sports a ‘dry deck’ 1500cc XPAG engine, thanks to Stewart. Richard mentions the L Type which is being built into a ‘Special’ with N engine (ex SVT) and finally, by pure coincidence, the J2 that I bought only three years ago has Stewart’s name in the Log Book, so there’s a strong chance I will have worked on parts of that all those years ago too...
It’s a small world.. RIP Stewart... :-)

Mark.
Many thanks for your interesting story. Glad to say that YJ3675 appears to be still with us, it is listed in the 2020 Triple-M-Register as NA 930. ( UK )
Regards,
Chris

Many years ago [obviusly] it was suggested to Stewart that he take on a "lad" to train up and then he would be able to have a greater throughput of work.
The answer was even when he was trained up he [Stewart] would spend so much time looking over the lads shoulder to make sure that the job was going correctly, that he would not be doing his own work.

Mark, I suppose that you were the nearest he ever got to a "lad"
