Just a cautionary reminder.

I dressed this morning for "other duties" only to be sent out on a fetch and carry job.

I thought it a good idea to take the P as it's a nice day and the carry was small and light.

I gave myself a bit of a fright as the boots I was wearing were too wide making reliable braking a challenge.

Do make sure you have appropriate footwear for restricted MMM pedal space. The darned steering column gets in the way as well.

Some years ago I got in my modern car [Toyota] and started to drive off, before I had gone more than a few yards I needed to stop to put on my seat belt .I COULD NOT REACH THE PEDAL .I had closed the door on my loose and very strong shoe lace!! No harm done but scary.I now use weak shoelaces Geoff

A recommended solution - a double knot for your shoe laces:

Well, some time ago I was visited by a pachyderm who wanted driving lessons. I enquired of his preferred pronoun; "MMM" was the response while eyeing up the P Type.

I had some difficulty in persuading the animal that a Triple M would not be practical to the extent that I had to produce the photo showing how they could not reach the pedals.

Fortunately a solution was found and driving lessons ensued.

Somehow or other our webmaster managed to delete my previous post so trying again!

Many years ago I had a couple of pairs of Anello & Davide (q.v.) co-respondent shoes - one pair were green and cream, the other pair, brown and cream - which were slim fitting with leather soles but no welt. They would have been perfect for the J2 but with numerous house moves over the years, sadly they've disappeared.

I think somebody else needs to take the hint, Nigel, the deletion of mine was an error.

One often hears it described as "an error" when someone is Nicked.

For 61 years having driven an Alvis with central, organ pedal, accelerator and ample footwell space an early M type again with central accelerator, button type, was somewhat of a change. Normal footwear being impossible to accommodatein the footwell. First mod to change the accelerator to an organ type. Second to get footwear to fit in available space. The footwear was improvised by taking a trainer sock and attaching a thin leather sole and lining. This worked fine for driving but meant taking a pair of walking shoes to use out of the car. Then Aldi had some beach shoes that are excellent for driving in and are stout enough to get from the car across the car park to the bar!

Presumably, the population driving cars prewar were of a smaller stature to us as otherwise why did the vehicle designers leave such restrictions on operating pedal clearances?

This is probably a fairly typical 1930s scenario - wearing Oxfords when driving.

These fit the bill; thin everything and all leather.
