What is it that attracts us to these cars? Is it because they remind us of our youth, when many of us owned them? Does this mean that fewer and fewer will seek to own these cars? Does that mean ,inevitably, that the cash value of them can only decline? Will they ever be accorded values as antiques like Ming Dynasty vases? It seems to me that MMM cars only race against other MMM cars because everything else is faster. If that is not so, can someone correct me? It will not be denied that MMM cars look good and sound good , like Harley Davidson motorcycles. But is that enough? I guess it has to be. |

I certainly wasn’t around when they where commonplace and race plenty of different marques with the VSCC so it must be something else ;)

As Onno say's, MMM's don't only race against other MMM's. Case in point, there are MMM's competing against all sorts of others at the Oulton Park Gold Cup this weekend, and again at VSCC Mallory Park next month. Come and see it :)

We tend to be attracted to the cars our parents had...
My kids love split screen Morris minors and we still have the one they knew...
My pa had a K Type, if it ever turned up I'd...
My grand kid? heaven knows what she will like,

What attracts us to MMM cars?
For me it is the apparent simplicity, visibility, novelty yet neat and effective concept and execution of the resultant design, at a particularly interesting period in the development of the motor vehicle. Some aspects of their design and development are deceptively sophisticated in action.
In addition to visibility the accessibility of just about every major part without having to grovel excessively underneath is a real plus.
They are great examples that can be used to explain and educate as to how a motor vehicle works.
On top of all that they are pleasing to the eye and a great example of how form and function can work together in harmony.
Whilst racing of MMM cars is a great sport to experience, not only as a driver but also as a spectator, I doubt that it is the main focus of interest for the majority of MMM enthusiasts.
I also doubt that the cash value of an MMM car is of much interest to most once they own one. They are not a primary investment vehicle for most as is evidenced by the number of people who have owned them for very long periods. |

Thank you all. I am impressed and comforted by your views. I have been trying to sell my NA for a long time. Today a delightful young lady agreed to come and value my house. I warned her that I had to sell the NA first.I described the car to her. She said "Why not sell the house with the car.?" Has anyone ever tried this? |

We love racing each other because of the friendship, support, respect and love of our cars on and off the track. Its a highlight of the season when we come together.
At VSCC Events we regularly have strong MMM entries across all grids.
Class and handicap systems allow us to compete against all. As it has always been since racing began.
Racing is not for all and was always a showcase for M.G. to sell cars. Hopefully racing today helps promote, remind and generate interest.
I m lucky enough to have grown up with M.G. as part of the family. I hope to continue to pass on the interest. Silverstone this year certainly got my daughters engaged and interested.
But I m genuinely excited by the history of M.G. I m proud to showcase and tell the story. As I did as the only pre-war car in a recent Modern Super Car show in Tring last week. The interest was un believable! (Plus I left the racing loud pipe on, which was fun)
We are surrounded by change at an extraordinary pace, who knows what the future will bring. I cant control that, but I will continue to use and showcase out little cars at every possible opportunity.

As registrar for the 6 cylinder Triple-Ms I regularly check the various adverts and web sites such as prewarcar.com to check on cars coming onto the market and prices etc. I update the record to show if a car is currently for sale and occasionally find a "new" car - it is amazing how many still turn up as witness that poor L1 Magna. Recently I have noticed some cars have remained unsold despite the asking price being dropped.
The market/auction reviews in classic car magazines also point to a decline in interest in pre-war cars as the older generation who were familiar with the cars pass away. I have also spoken to a couple of dealers who advised they are having to turn away potential sellers because of slow moving stock.
The younger generation are more interested in cars from the 1980/90s with performance cars such as the Ford Escort RS2000, Peugeot 1.9 Gti and VW Golf Gti being in demand. My son-in-law is the proud owner of a very nice Peugeot 1.9 Gti.
I guess the current market is suffering from the rise in inflation, uncertainty caused by high interest rates, and hopefully some form of normality will return. Now is a good time to look for a good Triple-M car!
