I had occasion to be combing the For Sale pages of Motor Sport for August to September 1958 and chanced upon these two ads:
August 1958
Was there a supercharged works N Type?
Oct 1958
Which car, I wonder?
Of course folks were more cavalier with their claims of authenticity in those days!
I also noticed a supercharger for a PB at £9 10s and a PB gearbox for the same price! But an ENV preselector from a K Type was only £6 10s.

Grafton's J4 advert of 10/58 referred to J3761, to which the body of J4004 had been transplanted at Derringtons, Kingston-on-Thames, in 1950, including the J4 guarantee plate.

Simon, the "works supercharged N Type" is possibly Mike A's car, which was at that time wearing it's 2-seat alloy body, aka "the whale"?
