I am at the moment looking to buy a Jaeger rev counter for my PA.
There was a stall at Stoneleigh which had two types for a PA.
Can anyone tell me which would be the correct one for my early (34)car. below are pictures of the two types I saw, the one in the lower picture has red and green areas and the one in the upper picture just has a red area also can anyone remember who was selling them or anyone that has them.
Many thanks.

Fred,

I did not see the rev counters at Stoneleigh but I suspect they could have been on Chris Clark's stall, give him a call on 01773 550485 or 07858 746270 to find out if it was him.

Peter.

Hi Peter

The name sounds familiar. I will give him a call, he may also be able to tell me which one is correct for my car.

Just been looking at my old (repro) Instruction Manual for P-type and it shows the type with green at 5000-5500 and red at 5500-6000 rpm. Since this is a copy of the fifth edition it may have been updated, but I rather doubt it as it would add little to the information imparted in the pic. So my guess is that the green/red arrangement was around in 1934.

My 1935 car (one of the last PAs) also has one like this, and although the instruments were restored a while ago it was like this before restoration - of course it may well be from another car anyway!

cheers

Graham

Graham,

You are probably right, I like the look of the one with the green section better so I guess I will go with one of them.
The other type may well have been from another car as most P Types seem to have the two colour version fitted.

Regards.

Fred

All the P types I have been involved in have the two coloured sectors, the PB/NB types have similar but they omit the rpm in top gear etc as these cars were fitted with a separate mileometer.

George, Graham,

Both of your comments have clinched it for me. I will be going for the usual one with the green / red sectors as I think it's a nicer looking instrument anyway.
Many thanks.

It never occured to me before until this thread came along, so I took a look at my two PA manuals. I have a 1934 first edition and on page 58 (illustration 41) it does not seem to show either areas in different colors.Could be that the black and white photo is just not close enough to see the shading. I also have the 2nd edition 1935.That clearly shows a second and closer view of the PB dash with the two color areas and the lack of the top gear speeds.

Hi Fred, nice to see you are almost there, anyway my PA which you have seen was built in june 1935 and has the red only area between 55& 60. I have no reason to think that it is not original.

All the best Rodney

Hi Rodney,
Yes I am getting there. Just starting to get the bottom end of the engine machined and metalled ready for the re build.

I am now wondering if the rev counter was changed at some point between 34 and 35.
My car was first registered 19/05/34 so should it have the two colour section counter or did MG fit whatever was available at the time.

Regards.

Hi friends,
just to add that even my Pa (1121) built in 1934 has a rev counter with the red only area.
ciao Francesco
