Aha! (again)
Now then, now then - am I right in thinking that the estimable Mike Dowley stamps S&V inside an octagon on some of his spare parts - trunnion covers perhaps?
He certainly added this emblem on part of my gearbox when he did some work on it a year or so ago.

Do any of you Octagon counters have original rocker bushes in your engine? If so you had better add them to your score.

This is a good game!
In view of Peter's interjection, maybe the rules should be changed so that the objective becomes "estimate the maximum number of octagons a P type could have had when first manufactured" ? ![](images/icon_smile_big.gif)

Good one Dick! Being a humble and comparative new boy to the P Type/Triple-M fraternity, I think I'd better leave the rest of the missing octagons to you well-versed time-served MG sages ![](images/icon_smile_wink.gif)

I thought I had got it all worked out, until I looked at the car's keyring.
Perhaps, if we are including internal parts, are MG-marked tools in? 3, then, for me.
Is it indicative of the company's half-hearted approach to Logo placement that no attempt to procure octagon-headed nuts and bolts was made?
The octagons are overwhelmingly placed from the driver forward.
Perhaps, as was reputedly the case with the SAAB 99, two different designers styled half each? (Both, allegedly, failed to provide a spare-wheel mounting, the resulting afterthought being cursed by every 99 owner)
Where was the first Octagon and when did the multiple use of the symbol start?

The deeper you dig - - - - - - the more you find !
What about original oil-pump gears, or the 4 steering knuckle bushes? Gerhard
