Hi all, recently I have learned that the binding of the springs on prewar sports cars are not for weather protection, like Wefco spring gaitors, but to strengthen or improve the spring itself. Anybody can teach me the "how to do" and where to get the binding material ? Kind regards Peter Germany |

Gentlemen,
Dan has a good memory - have a look at these two previous threads: 1. Leaf spring binding/laceing from 24/01/09 2. Binding of Springs from 07/04/06
Type these titles in Search and tick the archive box and you should find them. They don't show you the actual technique; it is best demonstrated. I must see if I can find any photos I took when I bound mine, which I did because that is what the chassis file specified.

Peter from Germany, have sent you a e-mail with photos and the info about binding springs or steering wheels, which I got from "learning by doing".
Cameron K0389, if I get your e-mail address, I will do the same for you. Gerhard

This seems like a good candidate to post on the download page.

Guys, Road spring race prep & cord binding seems like a popular topic. I've done this to two MMM cars and wrote up an article about it which appeared in the Spring/Summer 2009 North American MMM Register Newsletter. It's a time consuming task and cannot be done with the springs on the car. It's also more involved than simply binding the springs with cord. The article is 1087 words long and included photos. It would seem that this is too long to post here but I'll forward a copy to Phil Bayne Powell for possible inclusion in a future MMM infoletter?
Cheers, Chris L2 & J2 |
