I periodically have need of a tap or die that I do not have. I contacted a small secondhand tool supplier, who knows what you are talkink about and is very helpfull. He covers hand and machine tools for wood and metal, has a small selection of materials and will post very small quantities. The contact is David Fouracre at The Tool Box Colyton Devon EX13 6LU, telephone 01297 552868. The e-mail is :info@thetoolbox.org.uk but I would recommend a a visit if you are in the west country, but do make sure your lady has a good book to read. |

You can pick up BSF taps and dies from any good tool suppliers - in Berkshire we have Unimaster in Newbury who are very good - they also do brass fittings too.
I would steer clear of the conventional outlets (Toolstation and Screwfix) but honestly any of the specialist tool supply shops will be able to source this gear very easily and reasonably cheaply.

Hello Roger, you must be near me!
I thought I'd hijack this thread as it is vaguely appropriate. Lurking in the back of my garage is a dynamometer which I cannot see myself ever getting round to using.
Anyone interested in dynamometers?
Cheers

I have got to agree with David. Rather than buying the "85 Piece Tap and Die Set" made out of poor quality steel I think it is better to buy only, top quality, taps and dies that you actually need and also the corresponding tapping and clearance drills. It is the vital that you keep the drills and taps safely together or you will end up using the drills for something else, breaking them and they wont be there when you need them. The same goes for spanners. How many spanners in the "massive set" never get used.

Peter, Is a dynamometer a quite large device for measuring hp? How does it work? A photo,(never having seen one), would be of interest.

Ratcheting end wrenches are very popular here in the colonies of course in SAE and metric sizes but has any one produced a set in BSF sizes? I finally found a set of deep BSF sockets out of Japan .. you can find them on Ebay/motorcycles.... Terry in Oakland, CA |

Terry
I search for ratchet combi Whitworth spanners for a long time and eventually found then here:
http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RSC-Supplies/_i.html?_nkw=ratchet combi whitworth&submit=Search&_sid=602917249
Search for "ratchet combi whitworth".
They are a little pricey but the three popular sizes are certainly worth the price. Don't know whether they are available in the US.
