Hi all,

A colleague of mine is trying to research his late Grandfathers racing history at Brooklands. He competed in the Alvis Day in 1927. They have been in contact with Brooklands but only a little info is available.

Just wondering if the name rang any bells or if you had any research tips for me to pass on

Thanks

M

Hello Mark,

I'd welcome a steer too, because my wife's late uncle Donald Bernard Hollanby Robinson raced a Bugatti Brescia there in the pre-war years. Is there a Brooklands Club person we could contact?

Dick

The other options is to have a read through Bill Boddys book. Brooklands: The Complete Motor Racing History

Now just to find a copy!

Try Tony Hutchings on 01344 844287. He's the Brooklands Society Archivist and has access to all Brooklands programmes, etc. He's always very helpful, quite possibly your best shot!

Cheers,
Cat

Ho Cat

I think it was 1932-4 I think he won a FTD at the Lewes Speed trials in 1933 and is mentioned in Jeremy Wood's book 'Speed on the Downs' along with M. Chiron who, when he couldn't get off the line, was heard declaiming "Ou sont les vitesses?"! Ou indeed!

Mark,

You might want to know that it is very simple to find any book you want. In fact this correspondence has just spurred me to buy Bill Boddy's "Story of Brooklands, Vols 1,2&3" 10 minutes ago.

The secret is to go to abebooks.co.uk, which connects thousands of second hand book stores around the world.

I have no interest in the company, except that I am a regular and very satisfied customer.

Happy hunting,

John

Yes John, finding them may not be a problem; sometimes paying for them though......

Oz,

It cost me less than filling my car with petrol this morning, and was by far the better deal,

Hi Cat,

He WAS quick, but not that quick!

Perhaps the JR you were thinking of was in Dallas?
