Can anyone direct me to a supplier of replacement driveshaft couplings (six bolt - reinforced rubber disc) to suit a 1931 M-Type.
Thanks in Advance Tony

Hi Tony,
Suggest you try the Pre War Morris Minor clubs - I recall seeing fabric couplings on one of their web sites a short while ago. Or you may wish to convert to a Hardy Spicer prop shaft as I did. I sawed off the three prongs on the gear box and differential couplings and welded two circular plates to these. I then trued these up in a lathe and drilled four holes to match the hardy Spicer coupling. Foolishly I bought a second hand MGB propshaft at the Silverstone event and took this to a transmission specialist for shortening but it was easier to get a brand new one made up for £80 which I recollect was about the same price as two new fabric couplings.
Cheers

Tony, Harry Edwards of Yesterday's components stocks them. I bought mine from him a couple of years ago and they have done the job perfectly. His catalogue is full of all sorts of original parts for all MMM's as well as M types. Well worth obtaining. He is at Wellwood Farm, Lower Stock Road, West Hanningfield, Chelmsford, Essex, CM2 8UY Tel: 01277 840697, e-mail: edwrharo@aol.com good luck! Alan |

Hi Tony, I believe that Sports and Vintage supply the M type fabric couplings if you want to stay standard/original. Keith |

Hi Tony,
Harry Edwards died about 18 months ago, and Ian Harris bought out the business. He can be contacted atian@harris84.fsnet.co.uk tel 01462-456330. Ian should be able to supply if you want to stay original. I found that I could chew up fabric couplings in 2-3 years, and so finally changed to hatdy spicers (ex Morris eight) and a new propshaft. This was a hugh improvement.

Thank you one and all - I will be sticking to the fabric coupling as the car will have limited use (sunny Sundays & all that).
I will get supply from each of the suppliers suggested - I like to share my spending & keep as many suppliers in business as possible - you just never know when you will need them again.

I would stay with the original system. I bought a NOS fabric coupling at an autojumble in the UK some years ago but it seems very stiff and I haven't had to use it. Try to stay with the originality theme as long as you can, too many cars have been ruined (in my view, at least) by later "mods". |
