Try your local University or Technical College Metalurgy department. I had my crank and rods tested with dye penetrant and magnaflux for a donation to a local charity. They found insipient cracks around the clamp type little ends - rods now in the bin.

I meant to add that my Marles-Weller pitman arm had already been repaired (can't remember how or where!) and that was blamed for the breakage! I obtaned a second hand Bishop steering box from a Morris 8/40 which worked but the ratios were different! It also had a longer column!

Thanks for all the contributions.

Forgot to mention my bendy steering arm, this is how it was, and still is. On examination there is also a gentle bow in the drag link, or was it the track rod... Prbably happened when the radiator got its hole. Mike Hawke was adamant that CS Grant, the first owner, trialed it...

And the arm did pass the crack test...
