http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-SMITHS-0-80-MPH-SPEEDO-MG-AUSTIN-FRAZER-NASH-RILEY-ASTON-MARTIN-2240-/280925698106?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item416879f83a

It has PN on the dial but the layout looks different to mine.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

It's spot on for a d at the bottom of the face it say 2240 that means its runs at 2240 rpm at 45mph when calibrated by smiths. A f type with mn on the face runs at just over 2000 rpm when ran at 45mph. PCN m type speedo also runs at 2240 rpm at 45 mph.

Don't pay lots of money for it because it will need the bearings replacing back in. To do this you have to strip it completely down and build it back up again that will cost £50 if you can't do it yourself not many people can. All second hand ones have play in the spindle and need new bearings.

I can vouch for the fact that these 2240's do cost over £100 to rebuild properly ... but if you need one !

Onno, I wasn't seeing if you needed one just the fact that if someone needed one working its going to be circa £200 which everway you look at it because as Greg said, those that can be found always need restoration ...

how is the body-work coming on?

As I've not made it clear in my first post I already have one.
And was just wondering about the small differences in the dial.
And figured someone would not mind the heads up as they do not come up often

It's not too difficult to replace the bearings if you are good at fiddly things. What's virtually impossible is to buy replacement ball bearings.

I had one repaired last year and remember for bearings it needs loose balls in 1/16 inch = 1,588 mm.
I dont know how much, but i have some in stainless steel in my boxes. Minimum package was 100 to buy.
My source was a company here germany.
If anyone interested to the adress or my surplus balls, send me a email.
