Some of you may know that I'm involved as a driver at the McAlpine steam railway and museum at Fawley near Henley-on-Thames. This is a private railway, not open to the public. It has 1.25 miles of standard gauge (4ft 8.5in) track, an 'interesting' gradient of 1 in 13 at its steepest, and a large railway-oriented transport museum amd related attractions, including a Victorian 'gallopers' carousel.

The whole show is owned by Sir William McAlpine, the well-known transport benefactor.

There is the opportunity for a Triple-M group to visit the railway on Sunday 18th August

The minimum party size is 10 people and the maximum is 40. Each visitor makes an invited voluntary donation of £15 as a contribution towards our coal and meintenance costs.

If anyone is interested (without any commitment at this stage) in visiting the railway, would you please e-mail me off-line to record your interest.

Here is a picture and a web link to whet your appetite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyQwA6wCzSM

15 of the 40 places have already been provisionally allocated, so if you wish to come along (VERY preferably in a 'proper' car) please contact me off line.

Best wishes

For those of you who plan to join this outing, here is an interesting 10 minute BBC film. It features a rather well known character, apart from Sir William McAlpine.

There are still a few places available for this visit. Please contact me if interested. As the Michelin Guide might say (if it were listed) "Definitely worth a detour!"

I look forward to being driven by the Chairman on Sunday. What more could you ask for? Driving your pride and joy 70 miles to play with steam trains. And the weather forecast looks good too:

Bright sunshine at 7am, when I trust Dick will be in the engine shed getting up steam.

I assume that you all will be arriving in 'proper' cars. Or most of you.

Peter

My brother and I with wives are looking forward to joining in with J2 & PB. Jim having suffered the embarrassment of being pushed to the parking spot at VSCC Prescott (after conking out at the pay gate) with the PB, can have the J2 tomorrow with the oh so easy gearbox and I will have to 'rough it' with the PB.
Thank you to Dick for organising this day out.
Regards, Jeff
