A current topic on MOTs and V5cs got me wondering if there is any problem taxing a car after rebuild which has the old type V5 from before the European upgrade to V5C. Has anyone had problems or is it straightforward?

Go with the old-style V5, or apply for new-style V5C - neither is usually a problem - and go from there. Very many 'collectors'' vehicles coming on to the market have these through recent disuse.
Any change to particulars, however, may complicate the process.

Ian & Bob, my debate on MOT's was indeed leading to this type of question. Not needing an MOT (is it from 1st Nov?) does and will change the requirements for getting a restored MG (pre 60) on the road. I suspect some law must stop you driving a car with NO body ... but what? The more you think of the implications the more open it becomes ... but also a little worrying dont you think.

Thanks for the reassurance Bob. Is this people's general experience? As for the law Chris, I believe that there is a law totally separate from the MOT which still requires a car used on the road to be roadworthy.

Ian, Having been away, I think you'll find they are "rolling out" the new red ones slowly & if you haven't got yours yet, they will send it when you re-licence, basically at any change in the vehicle's situation. Otherwise it will come in time as my P one did; not licenced since '69!
Cheers,
Dave |

The DVLC are issuing the new red V5Cs as some of the old blue ones were stolen.
I have now received the red V5Cs for all of my cars.![](images/icon_smile.gif)
