Just taxed the M Type and didn't need a MOT. Simply filled out a V112 - only four boxes and used the category "O" as the reason for exemption. Asked at the Post Office and they weren't too clear on the procedure so went to the DVLA Office in Glasgow. Has anyone else used the Post Office and if so were there any probs? Maybe my M Type is the first MG to get a tax disc without a MOT since testing was introduced.

Jan,

I used my local post office and there was no problem. I opted for category 'M' on the V112.

I always use the Post Office to tax my cars - remember, "Use it or lose it!"

Used the local Post Office. No problem.

Is J3656 body with paint, or the gleaming variety? No Smilies with green eyes, I'm afraid.

Hi John,

Why did you use exemption category M? I was given my original registration number back a wee while ago and was applying for the fist disc with this number and was advised by my local Post Office this must be done at a DVLA office. What was interesting there is no charge for processing the return of an original registration number -subject to the provision of suitable documentary proof. There is, however, a cost involved in issuing an age related number if the original is lost or cannot be authenticated.

Hello Jan T,

I used category 'M' because none of the other categories seemed to apply (and for that matter I wasn't sure that 'M' applied either!) However, I'm not really bothered as I was given back the V112 with the tax disc.

Note for 'Spitfire' J3656 is in primer but will eventually be dark red.

You can now download Form V112 here:

http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/forms/~/media/pdf/forms/V112.ashx

And you will find there is an Option "O" for vehicles manufactured before 1960.
Presumably you can print this and take it to the Post Office.

Thank you David. This explains everything - I must have been given the old print of the V112 which doesn't have the 'O' category. Ha Ha!
