I have a engine block that came with my D project. I know it is not the original block. Can someone tell me what type of MG it came out of. This is the stamping on the block. MG A 1498
I have a note that chassis 2M 1737 was originally fitted with engine no. 1486. 2M 1754 was fitted with 1528 so chassis no. 2M 1800 is probably a bit late for engine no 1498. The engine number sequence for M Types has a great many gaps and indeed a great many "inversions" i.e. numbers skipped then appearing in rather later cars. Not so 1498 however so it must have been fitted to a chassis before 1754.
Robin Hamblett may of course have more up to date info.
2M1800 was simply a guesstimate based on a quick scann of the register listing. As so may M-types have replacement engines and, as Bob says, many gaps exist, it was hard to see much of a pattern, so mine was merely an approximation.
