Thought I might try again and see if anyone can shed some light on the history of my car. It's a 1936 MG NB #0858. The car I believe came from a collection in Southern California in the 80s. The car was purchased by Everett Smith at that time. Color was a two tone green. I found a receipt for some parts order by Mr G Hall from Encinitas, California.
Thanks

You can obtain copies of the chassis file for NA0858 from the MG Car Club, Abingdon, on payment of a small fee.
The person to contact is John Inness.

Unfortunately, a rather large block of chassis files for NB series chassis are missing from the Club office. All 3 of the N types that I own or have passed through my hands belong to this group. 0826 and 0855 I own now. 0836 - the Airline coupe I once owned and which burned - also. 0858 would be in this block of chassis numbers as well. I'm curious to know if this car is a 2 or 4 seater. It would be nice if these files would turn up again, but they have been missing for quite some years, so they are likely lost forever.

I wonder how many NB files are missing, there is a file for my 2 seat NB chassis number NA0960.
There is a nice picture of NA0858 in the pictures pages.
I also wonder how many of the 98 2 seat NBs built have survived?

George,
N-type files are missing from NA0700 on to NA0899 (both included)
But sometimes it's possible to get some info by going through the Cars for Sale adverts in "The Sports Car", because from Feb.1937 on the Chassis No. is mentioned.
For example your NA0960 is for sale in August 1938, for 113 Pounds, Black/blue with a mileage of 36,521.
But luckily yours is over 900, and so the files are there.

Hi Gerhard

How interesting that you have found the advert for NA0960 - giving away my age here but I was born in August 1938!!

The car was indeed black with blue upholstery, and being an ex Wiltshire Police car I am surprised at the low mileage - perhaps it had been round the clock or alternatively fitted with a new speedometer.

I do not have that copy of "The Sports Car" and wonder if you could send me a copy of the advert?

Best regards

George
