Does anyone have an original ignition key to fit the lucas switch.
I want to make a copy, I know its a simple design with a rod stem and a 2 blade key. I did get a key with my car but it couldn't be original it falls out of the lock barrel being entirely flat.

I am also interested to know what an original key looks like as my replica, bought off ebay for almost nothing, falls out very easily when switched on. This key is also totally flat.

If the key falls out, the key switch slot is probably very worn, the slot should a line with key to allow insertion and be diagonal to the key when the key is turned to the on position, preventing the key from being with drawn, (or falling out).

The slot can be repaired, but you will need to take the switch apart.

Keith D:

I have a pair of these keys - both stamped LUCAS and Ignition only.

One is dead flat, the other has a pressed indentation.

Here are some pics.

The ignition key on my NB is the same as that Dick has photographed, it is dead simple in design but does not fall out.

On the other hand the ignition key for the L2 is a properly cut Union key.

There is a small company in the UK, they exhibit at the various classic car shows, who carry a good stock of blanks and cut keys to order. At the moment I cannot recall their name. I will see if they advertise in the magazines - such as The Automobile.

Very interesting indeed. I will show my key shortly. Brand is ACE. Looking at my lock it would be worn but appears to have a definite centre tube shape.
I will dismantle it eventually for the key profile. If its worn why does it have a centre round bore, this would not be for an entirely flat key?
