Thought you might like to see the current state of progress. The aim is to run the car at MGCC Silverstone.

Andrew

I saw the car at South Stoke last week - minimal bodywork, tiny fuel tank etc!!

Look forward to seeing it on the track where it should be very competitive! Believe it used to beat Lotus 6's when driven by Don Moore.

Hi Andrew, The car is looking great, is it supercharged or just a tuned PA engine? The brake back plates look very small! has the car been converted from cable?

Rodney.

Rodney,

Thanks for your comments.

PB Engine to 61m. Some performance mods:- Larger carbs*, different valve timing, new crank, light flywheel, high compression, blah, blah, however, it won't be anything as 'extreme' as an original Don Moore engine (nor will the driving!) Nevertheless, I am hoping that it will perform reasonably well given minimal weight. Brakes are 8" pre-war Morris hydraulics, as used by DM. (*DM's strategy was power-tuning from carbs so I am sticking to that route).

At the moment, the engine is about half-built and I really need to get it into the chassis within the next 3 weeks if I'm going to make Silverstone without burning the midnight oil.

It's all getting a bit exciting for me as my involvement with this project spans almost 20 years. It is a considerable relief finally having a car to look at and not having to picture the end product in my 'minds eye' any longer. Can't wait to drive the bloody thing!

Wow! I can see why it took priority over the M-type

Hi Alex,

In an ideal world, I'd have the M too, but as you know, I was getting seriously over-committed to the point where none of the projects were progressing.

In case you or anyone else is wonders why the car only has one (small) headlamp, the answer is that DM always ran it thus equipped. Apparently it was road legal in the 1950's and meant he could run in competition as a 'sports car' i.e. fitted with wings and lights. It was another example of his fanatical weight-reducing measures.
