I have just been sorting through a history file for my MG TF and thought some of you would be interested in the attached receipt. I have many others including one for £2 for a cam shaft and bearings and £15-5s-6d for two new carburettors and £7 for a new radiator.

Cheers

These were the days when you could go out with a half crown in your pocket, take your bird to the flicks, buy her a fish supper, get the tram home, and still have enough left for a packet of Woodbine ;-)!

Ha! Those were the days, alright! As an Australian, I worked at the Sheffield Victoria Station in 1961/2 as a porter and earned 8 quid a week while my wife worked in an office (Burnet and Hallamshire, fuel merchants) and got over 12 quid!

Bjorn-Eric Lindh from Sweden very kindly sent me his file of correspondence with Bill Thomson. It consists of around 100 letters and replies dating from February 1963. It's priceless!

Here is one of the earliest of letters from Bill, who was a real gentleman and straight as a dye. The reference to EFTA (European Free Trade Association) dates from the good old days when we traded with Europe and had not become enmeshed with the EU 'gravy train' .............

but that's another story!

I well remember dealing with Thomsons of Wimbledon. I seem to remember Bill had hands crippled with arthritis but still turning out parts. In 1972, well after decimilisation in the UK, he was still dealing in pounds shillings and pence! Good on him.
