And in the US, the same car is worth about the same numeric amount, but in US Dollars instead of Pounds.

Thank you for the help. This is very helpful, it gives me a place to start. Pictures with the top and side curtains or cover were taken when I got the car. The other is after the wood body work had been replaced. This has been a driver and needs work to win a show.

I expect many readers of the current "Automobile" magazine will have seen "Forest Vintage" offering a nice looking J2 with competition history at £42,500. Pushing it a bit I would say!

In the August edition of the same magazine an owner local to me has J2, Registration OW 2953 fitted with a PA engine (apparently newly rebuilt by Barry Walker) for sale at £35,000.

Judging by the sign on the windscreen at today's local car show, there have been no takers.

Bob.

Hello Scott,
Did you acquire the car, all those years back, with these later style wings?
It might pay to contact the New England MG T Register, as they are your side of the pond.
Many of these enthusiasts may like to dip their toes in something earlier.
I have their details, and excellent publication The Sacred Octagon, but they are miles away, with my J2 in a workshop. I would suggest you give this a shot as they have a really strong membership.

It's apparently J4252, so it's a swept wing car.

yes this is the way I got it.
so, after your help I think that $25,000 for a running but needs work car is fair and should sell. The trailer would be extra.
Any comment on asking 25?

Just a clarification... I think what you are saying is that the two photos that show the car looking quite nice (one with the top up, one with the cover fitted) are old photos from 1971 and are not current. And, the first photo you posted (which shows the car looking a little tired) is a current photo. Correct? I am no expert, but I would say the rather scruffy-but-straight looking car in the first photo would be challenged to bring $25k in the US. It has a lot of charm, but that seems steep. Worth a try, maybe, but steep. Regardless, I wish you the best of luck in getting it sold and there does seem to be a buyer for every car out there. By coincidence, I was passing through Kenosha about two weeks ago - wish I had known there was an MG to check out there! Regards, Tom

I saw the opening posting as the car being 1932. I was spending most of my time, machining,in an engineering workshop and under the J2, with my I phone! (My old copy of Octagon Heaven is still left by the door there, with some Sacred Octagon mags)
Yes, Simon, I see Colin's posting and the reply.
As for Lew's comment. Scott has found the MMM Register. Just pointing out there are other MG clubs with a healthy membership. I converse with many owners, of cars right back to the very earliest MGs,. (Tigresses) They are not all in the same club.
If Scott is seeking "a loving home" and buyer in the USA. The lion's share of square riggers live and survive happily there.
As Scott does not want to use E Bay, he just wants a yardstick to price his car up.
The big plus is that he has approached the MMM Register...
To find he has a " length of string,"
I would find the challenge of getting top dollar for an MMM car, purely on a visual appreciation, Mid States, might favour a North American buyer.
Where were the bulk of MGs sold? Without USA sales of "export or die" T types, ...

Yes it is the same car. The wood coach work has mostly been replaced and the interior lining was pulled away. It was stained and in need of replacement anyway. The paint on the side of the bonnet has started to come off but for some reason the metal underneath has not started to rust, maybe an undercoat? The paint was multipal layers and was going to be repainted anyway. This is NOT a show car at this time, it needs work but it will run and is mostly compleat.
I had sent Nick a number of early and late photos, too many to post here. He said when I fix a price he will help with the posting of them. I would not expect anyone to buy the car sight unseen.
As I had said I was just trying to get a feel for value and intrest.

I think everyone agrees, in their own words, that valuation is hard to agree.
You have come to a site that probably has the most critical eye on an MMM car. That is a boon, in itself.
We all bought "our" cars in various states.
The more you can do to describe the car, the more potential buyers might be influenced.
They are a pretty and distinctive car, in all conditions.
Even though you don't favour Ebay... It might pay to place it on there at a Buy It Now (BIN) price of $25,000.
Not everything has to be bid for. Better than a dealer buy it, then just push it back into the system, with their whack on top.
It is a specialist, rather niche market- Although virtually all parts can be bought "off the shelf" from certain traders.
There are many plus points to promote.
This Club.
The plethora of repro, and "better than original" spares available.
I thought the MG T Type owners might take a shine to it.
Contact me offline and I can maybe suggest a few directions to take.
