The Airline Coupe that Sussex Sports Cars have had for sale for a long time does not appear to be on the Register. It looks in concours condition but what a price! Perhaps this has been discussed before and I missed it. I'm sure you are you aware of this car Lew ? http://www.sussexsportscars.co.uk/cars/1936-mg-pb-airline-coupe/

There is most certainly an entry in the 2012 printed register as well as on the AIrline Coupe Registry. Where do you not see it listed?

The advert did not give the chassis no. so I looked up the reg. no. which is not listed in the printed Register. I then remembered your excellent website. All was revealed. However its still been for sale for a long time . Is the price unrealistic? Still, its a beautiful car. Graham |

Three years ago it was being offered for sale by them at £250,000! I expressed surprise to the vendors agent at the time and informed it stood a better chance at around £80K. The asking price is slowly coming down

Over the last 5 years, or so, the average selling price for PA/PB Airline Coupes has been in the near neighborhood of US $150,000, so the current asking price for PB0608 is not unrealistic.

That would make it around £95,000 then which may just help it find a buyer. Its £120,000 price tag will purchase quite a selection of alternative exciting vintage exotica

The asking price is in the same bracket as K3 replicas?
I would have thought such a rare Triple-M car as the PB Airline must be worth the same figure as a K3 rep.![](images/icon_smile.gif)

I wonder if it is still For Sale - maybe not !.
Airline Coupe's have a magnetic appeal to some people as they represent an example of vehicle design history. The K3 (real ones) reflect a "built for purpose cross country racer".
To each their own - but it is sad to see replica's built where "original" K-series (and TA) cars are lost.
We are here for a good time, not a long time !. |

Hi, As I am finding out people bemoan the conversion of K1s into K3 replicas but are not interested in buying K1 tourers. Cheers Ross |

I remember seeing this car in the early '90s, when it was owned by Robbie Stewart in Bonnybridge, in Central Scotland. At that time it was a heap of bits, with none of the original Airline bodywork, which had been hacked off in the '60s I believe (Robbie had apparently owned it since the '60s). The only thing left to identify it as an airline was the original logbook, which Robbie showed me. As always is the case, he planned to rebuild it sometime, and I asked him to let me know if he ever decided to sell, but he told me an unnamed gentleman from England had been promised first refusal (possibly a Bone), and I never heard again from him.

I note from their advert that Sussex Sports Cars have marked the PB Airline as reserved.
It would be interesting to know the value agreed. Hope we see the car out and about again.

I show Charles Turnbull Stewart as the owner from 1959 to 1971 with nothing shown after 1971 until 1994 when purchased by Hiro Nishio. May I assume Charles Turnbull Stewart is known as Robbie? And does anyone have any more definitive history of ownership between 1971 and 1994?
By the way, the body was built (presumably from scratch) by Keith Portsmore. I have photos of its construction.

Lew, I have an approximate address for Robbie Stewart, and if it is important I can email it to you. As it is about twenty years since I visited him, it could well be out of date. I live a bit far from Bonnybridge now to "just pop by", but I could try the next time I find myself in that area.
