anyone know the relative cam timing to piston position for a C type?

I have a C type cam fitted to the M type and if you time it up as per blower the timing is around 90 degrees (on the cam) out eg inlet opens as the piston is coming up.

Now to get round this I have always set up the engine as piston at TDC number 4 firing and just installed the cam with number 1 exhaust and inlet valves on rock (exhaust just closing inlet just opening) and this seam to run ok. But should the inlet be open before TDC?
