Just had a catastrophe! Having spent quite a long time overhauling and setting up my diff. I was finally torquing up the pinion shaft nut when PING the threaded end of the shaft broke off way before the torque wrench clicked. It is however, good that it broke now because it was already broken about three quarters of the way through, which probably explains why it was not very tight when I took it apart. Has anyone ever reclaimed this problem? it should not be too difficult to drill and tap the end of the shaft as it should be reasonably soft in the middle. This may be my opportunity to fit a higher ratio, already 8/39 but with an XPAG engine in a P-type it would pull a higher one. Does anyone have a useable 8/37 or higher set surplus to requirements, 8 bolt type.

Maurice.

Thanks for the offer Dick, I just thought that if I had to get a new set I would go for a higher one. I have reclaimed the broken pinion shaft Drilling it was not too bad but tapping it with rather old taps was rather long winded, all I have to do now is to loctite a new piece in.

Maurice.
