I looked at an estonian restorer's homepage where he writes about a 1935 PB that he has supercharged.
- Were there any 1935 PB's? Mine is listed in the factory papers as "issued" with engine number so and so in december 1935 and sold on the 10 January 1936.
Just for interest - is it then 1935 or 1936?
- Or - were all called model year 1936 even if some were built in late -35 (among others the converted PA's)?

Jan, according to the chassis files my PB 0564 was sold to its 1st owner on 16th Jan 1936 but the build records show that the engine was issued to the chassis on 2nd Dec 1935.
Thus it would seem fairly certain that the initial vehicle build was in 1935 and perhaps not completed until early Jan 1936. Also some of the original castings carry a '1935' number.

Regarding 'Model Year' nomenclature by vehicle manufacturers, I suspect that the initiation of a particular Model Year differed depending on each manufacturer's (Sales and Marketing) policy, and in my working experience with R-R and Bentley the last quarter of the year usually saw the start of build for the following Model Year.
Can someone advise if MG used 'Model Year' nomenclature pre 1939 and if so, from what point/month of the year it was applied?

Bruce. (PB0564)

Here in the US, and I suspect in many other areas, the cars were often titled as the year of sale, not the year of manufacture.

My car,PB0602, left the factory on 31st Dec. 1935, converted from a PA. It was sold by University Motors on 2nd Feb 1936.Original log book therefore states it as 1936 car.

Thanks all - now I know that I have used the right year - 1936 - for my car.
