The build-sheet date having arrived as well as the grand-children, a Birthday party was held for PA 603 on a miserably cold day. The children were more interested in the horn, the trafficators and the '80' chocolate cake than in camshafts, of course. The car took little part.
It was sobering to realise that the first PA which I owned was 26 years old at the time and this one is 80. Aaagh!, as they say in the comics.

Mmmmm - my first PA was just a quarter of a century old when I bought it, at a cost of about £45, and lived in the street outside my bedsit in Putney. Scary.
Bob - the driver looks very happy!

Now there's a thing - one day on and 140 chassis numbers later (!), my PA has a build date of - today (1934). It was supplied to University Motors on 31st May 1934. After a few initial faults were rectified, and following some to-ing and fro-ing the factory released it once again for sale on 1st September, 1934 but it was not first registered until 18th February 1935 when it was allocated
registration number MG 3811 (which the previous owner grabbed to put onto an MGB).
If the car had a name (it doesn't) we might have sung HBTY, but instead will take it through a brisk run through the lanes and on to the wider beyond. It/she still remains 12 years older than me .....
