Lots of good information on PA close ratio gearsets. I did not want to high-jack the specific discussion with a new topic of J2 input shaft. So, I am looking into making some new J2 gearbox input shafts. Several questions arise: 1-are all J1 and J2 input shafts the same? 2-Is the reverse scroll needed if using a front ball bearing with the oil seal? 3-are the L1 and L2 input shafts the same herringbone input gear but with longer clutch shaft? 4-Lastly, anyone interested in a new J2 input shaft for the standard J2 Wolseley gearbox? Cost unknown till I find out the demand, if any. Thanks from Canada for any information. Bob |

Hello Bob, I am surprised that no one has answered you. Regarding Q1: the J-gearbox J1/J2 are the same. Q2.: I donīt think so. Q3.: Yes. Q4.: yes I am, but of course if it cost one arm and one leg it depends.

Same here. Bob I emailed you, but fear the forum email system is a bit more than flaky. Many people are not receiving my messages.

In hope of potential economy of scale, would a J2 input shaft fit a Minor 4-speed gearbox of the same period? Or for that matter, would it fit any of the other very similar Wolseley gearboxes?

Bob, I have a S&V input shaft in my J2 g'box which is beautifully made and works perfectly so hopefully will outlast me....but in the interest of encouraging the supply of spares for our cars I would be happy to commit to another, you never know, maybe my grandchildren will need one! Jamie (whose PB drove into the garage last week and now won't start) but I do love these cars... |

On some of the M type 4 speed Wolseley boxes, the diameter of the herringbone gear section is sometimes marginally smaller, but to the eye, at a glance they look the same
