Hello Folks, In discussion with the previous owner of one of my classics, he asked me if his 1931 M Type MG is still alive. The registration number was/ is DG 4888. Thanks.

I am afraid the Registration number is not shown in the 2014 printed Register.

National Tyres UK site says "….. vehicle (registration DG4888) has been identified as a 1932 MG PETROL SPORTS …" suggesting it still exists but a year younger.

Hi Chris.
The 2001 Register lists it as;
CM 3227 Engine number; 2984 A. DG 4888. Triple M reg. 2355. It also denotes that the register has a photo of the car on its records.
What does the "CM" refer to?

The car is also listed in the 2005 Register as "ex coupe, Ford engine". No owner's name mentioned however. Obviously still in existence in recent years and therefore hopefully it is safely tucked away in someones garage awaiting its turn for rebirth.

Sam, your guess of a coupe is correct. All the coupes had the chassis number denoted CM/****. Keith |

Surely, this is another case where , in my opinion , ALL known Triple-M cars should be on the Register with a suitable comment alongside eg ' not a current member' or 'last known of in 2001 (say)'. I know this subject has been raised before & there may be some difficulty in adding these 'lost' cars to the Register but I do feel any car that is clearly not scrapped & is known of should be listed. |

It would be fascinating to see a photo of this car today to see if any clues remain about its origins as a coupé .
Ray's comment makes good sense. An addendum listing cars which have been seen in recent years but are currently 'lost' would make a potentially useful resource.

Agree totally Ray. Taking them off the register is a bit of minefield for letting people invent ID's for the more desirable cars such as K3 reps. |

I would expect that Mike Dalby (Mike the M) would be able to tell us the number of the original engine fitted to CM3227 and as he hasn't yet commented, perhaps he has gone into hibernation for the winter. As he was leading the marshalling team on Slippery Sam on the MCC Exeter Trial two weeks ago possibly he has slipped away and is now embedded deep in the red South Devon mud.

Original engine was as suggested above, MG 2984A, but last info is that a Ford engine was installed. No info on whereabouts I'm afraid.

Thanks to Everyone. I have just spoken to the previous owner, Graham Hayman, he was pleased ( and surprised ) that the car is still around. He commented that the car was originally a ' doctors ' coupe, he has some photos of the car from the days of his ownership that he will be forwarding for us. He did also mention that when he bought the car, it came as boxes of bits which he had to rebuild into something he could use.

Still around Colin! My files say that I have a photo of it, but it seems to have disappeared! The car was indeed a coupe built on 28.10.31 with engine number 2984A. My file also says it was "last seen at Sotheby's in 1984". The register number is 2355 and Bob Clare questioned if it was still around in Nov 2006.
