When Triple-M cars were being produced can anyone say how many production lines MG had?
![](https://farm9.staticflickr.com/8653/16131563949_50f7f9c614_b.jpg)
For example, when the D-types (above) were rolling down the production line where were the other contemporary production line models?
Had MG Midget, Magna and Magnette models all separate production lines?
Did it all end in a queue for testing?

The second of your pictures shows M types and a mk2 18/80. So would probably be about 1930 or 1931 could be 1932 even. The saloon in the background is also a 18/80.

Not 1932.
The M has early wings and very early wheels.
What are the vertical black lines on the front of the petrol tank ?? |

but interestingly, appears to have the later style of apron with embedded horn... I had (wrongly?) assumed that that changed along with all the other 'later' styling changes. It also has the larger data plate on the rocker cover, but I don't know when that changed..

Insulating tape I think. For plug leads?

I seem to recall the parts list gives clues about when the horn was so fitted.
Has my thread completely unravelled already?
Any pictures of the other production lines?

Those were the days when spray paint was so safe all you needed was a flat cap or a shop coat to protect your lungs.

Hi Sam, I was told by an elderly gent involved in filming in the 30's that for this type of scene they would have been spraying water to pretend they were working.... cellulose paint and thinners would have coated camera lenses and bu@@ered up acetate film! Foz |

The M, MG 1027 was a Jarvis bodied car built 16 April 1931 and chassis 2M 2787. It was registered to J. R. Temple and had some trialling history in 1932. J. R. Temple was the Service Manager and then Competition Manager.

Yes , I was being a little flippant and I had guessed it was likely to be water because the body (on the left) has no masking in front of the scuttle and over the engine and chrome work. The floor looks wet too.

On the other hand the spray on the guards to the right is not running off like water.
I digress.
Are there any good wide shots of production lines occupied by anything other than Midgets ?

I've got a pic in a book somewhere which shows an SA or VA production line, I'll dig it out...

Lovely period pictures!
Sadly the Jarvis bodied M type, Registration MG1027, does not appear in the 2014 printed Register.
Perhaps the couple standing by the car are taking delivery. It looks like a used car so perhaps was at the works for service/warranty. You can imagine the lady saying please note "the man said in future you must not over rev the little engine".

Think its not a VA as it has a 2 part rear window. VA's only had one piece? |
