I purchased a set from a well known English supplier, and they were really poor requiring the cost again in machining the set,to be able to use them. If any car managed to fit these faulty sets, they would have serious issues with the steering and handling. I mentioned this to the supplier along with my engineers name, but to date I have not had any offer for compensation. Has any other member experienced this? This is not meant to be a reflection on any of the reputable dealers with good business practices.

How exactly can you "re machine them" apart from obviously reaming the bushes in line once the bushes are fitted to the stub axle? |

Hi. I ordred new king pins and brushses from S & V. Pressed the brushses into place, when pressing in to place, the diameter get smaler and you need to reaming the bushes in line.

Standard practice for all kingpin & bush replacement - might also have to shim the bushes to take up any play (up & down) between axle & stub axle... |

Each front axle ( from different marques )that that I restored all needed reaming. My J2 will be next.

Just a note to say that the king pins referred to in the original post were not supplied by Sports and Vintage Jamie

RE KING PIN BUSHES SET. This is exactly the issue that was apparent. To quote my very experienced qualified pre war MG Engineer who is not a back yard amateur.
the king pin set came with all the parts required to complete the job but the bushes were out of round running out off centre and were all different sizes on the od so to big to fit stubs provided so alot of setting up inthe lathe and machinging to correct nearly the same amount of time to make new |

Just a note to also say that the original kingpins referred to were not supplied by Vintage MG Parts either.
If there is a serious problem with this particular supply Nigel then should you not be advising who is supplying the parts so purchasers can be aware and the supplier is compelled to address the issue. Your topic is to make people aware of making the wrong purchase but only goes half way which isn't much help to many.
Only buy from trustworthy sources in future Nigel.

Two down - how many to go? How many "well known English" suppliers are there? |

I consider myself very fortunate and privileged in that as an MMM layman I am being given excellent advice and recommendations and without this I too would have possibly ended up in a similar situation.![](images/icon_smile.gif)

Whilst on this subject does anyone have a supplier and tool number for the in line adjustable reamer and fittings/extentions needed to correctly ream out new bushes in stub axle to get a correct play free fit after the bushes are pressed in i.e. everything needed ?

I have a modified reamer, made for me by my employer many years ago and which I used again on my more recent rebuild. It can be available loan to others for the cost of postage.
