I having been discussing the war time vehicle lighting regulations with other pre-war car owners. Roger Corti from the Ford Y Registry kindly provided the following document, which I trust may be of interest to members of our forum.

That must date from some time after February 1940, which is when the 20mph night time limit was introduced. The lighting regulations were changed in September 1941, allowing drivers to use two masked headlights. (See The Times 13/9/41 p5)

As I am restoring one of my Rover 10s into a WW2 ARP requisitioned Ambulance, interesting that not only were the headlights dimmed & covered, but also the rear stretcher cabin had subdued lighting, attached is an original lamp, 12v torch bulb as fitted, for when the rear doors were opened to accept a casualty.

Reference the fitting of the headlamp diffuser, attached is an original photo of Newhaven ARP WW2 Requisitioned Ambulances ( No 3 from the left is a Rover )it shows the cowls fitted to the nearside if singly.
