Andy

I was just looking for examples of the books. For heavens sake don't go buying them at those prices as I am sure they will turn up fpr less and this site has a library sales section which was where my copy of Graham Howell's book came from but I think it is out of print now.

I have a photocopy of the J manual spare now I come to think of it, nice but not essential. My original is from a J in France but I forget the chassis number.

Cheers

You will find all the available Parts Lists and Instruction Manuals hidden away in the Technical Documents>Downloads>Manuals section (hint, hint, Nick!)

Graham Howell's book may still be available from the Octagon Car Club who originally published it but it does need to be used with caution. I have heard of one MMM engine builder saying that he gets steady work making good the errors that people have made by following Howell's advice.

Well done! I should have said in my earlier posting that we do hold some info about your car on the Register, specifically:

Engine No. 703AP
UK Registration number NJ 3520
Triple-M Register Number (which stays with the car) 0297
Previous owner George Muntain
Annotations: J.L.R. Blunt, E. Slade 6/39, M.C. Cleave '70's?

To complete te picture is there any chance that you might be able to send us an image of the chassis front dumbiron with the chassis number stamping on it?

Thanks - and good luck!

I feel your pain (and anticipation). Here are the before (as found) and after photos of PA1169. Can you tell which is which?

Dick:
That is wonderful information. In fact I bought the car from George Muntain's widow Sheila (since remarried). Here is a picture of the dumbiron with the chassis number.

Chris and Lew: Your photos are an inspiration. I hope to see your car one of these days Lew, perhaps at Put-in-Bay.

Lovely car Lew, with some good Britsh badges, but........ The road tax disk should be mounted on the other side (British N/S) to be legal!

I understand, Keith, but:
1) In the UK they are no longer required. It's only for show in the US. I suppose the OP will nick me for a point or two.
2) I couldn't get a good fit on the near side. The windscreen stanchion was just a bit off and the mount didn't stay straight.

But at least it carries the correct date and details to the manufacture date of the car.

Many thanks Andy, that's really helpful - it helps to keep the records straight!

Incidentally, and before anyone else asks, is the car missing the front chassis cross tube?

Dick:
Looking at some other photos that I took it appears that the cross tube is indeed missing. How difficult is that to put right? I am anticipating stripping the car to bare chassis anyways, and checking that it is not bent or racked.

Andy,

I believe that the front cross tube is available from some of the UK suppliers. However, if you are the handy type with access to a welder, I believe you could fashion a new tube. I don't have the exact dimensions readily at hand, but it is nothing more than a straight section of pipe with a threaded insert welded into the ends. This threaded piece is to accept the front spring pinions.
