Hello,
Does anybody know how to obtain a set of front axle torsion brackets with cables?

Vintage MGparts has them on the website, but they are out of stock and they don't produce new ones anymore.

Does anybody have an extra set or know of another adress?

I too have asked VMG about these. Perhaps if there are sufficient of us interested Rich might be persuaded to make another batch?

Eric

I have these surplus to requirements. Are they what you are after?

I am afraid these are the only parts I have.

I think a yacht chandler could tell you where to find someone to make some...

Cheers

Peter/Eric,

Ocean Rigging in Lymington (www.oceanrigging.co.uk) have previously swaged cables for me (a fascinating process to watch) but not for an MG. One of the problems I encountered was that the yacht rig components (clevis forks, turnbuckles, rod ends etc. tend not to be quite the size and/or design to replicate the types used in period on vintage cars and the threads are mostly metric (not necessarily a problem if you make your own nuts from Whitworth hexagon but the pitches tend to be coarser than ideal in our application).

So...as Peter says, cables are not necessarily the problem, it's the various brackets that are the most difficult items.

You never know!!!!!

If anyone knows how to make 'time' then I would be seriously interested in buying loads of it in. There are far too many projects ongoing at the moment to replenish the stock on this one and they are time consuming to make.

Colin Tieche used to supply these. The straps and cables were made up by a Chandlers near him in Lymington and he made the brackets out of 1/4 inch thick steel. With heat applied the brackets are quite easy to shape yourself or you could get a local blacksmith to make them up.
I have seen two different types of rear bracket. The most common one fits under the lower front wing stay but I have also seen a version of this bracket which bolts to the chassis just above the rear trunnion box.

Has anyone got any that they can measure and make a drawing.

There is a drawing on the site, but its for a K3.

I presume we are talking about J&P models.

Perhaps as Richard does not intend making them any more, he might supply the drawing. Then we could get them made by our local blacksmiths.

Ok, potentially we can make some more I guess as I have been offered some assistance on the time front. I would want to modify my previous design slightly first however to assist the assembly process.

For those interested in ordering a pair then please can people email me direct (enquiries@vintagemgparts.com). I will have to work out new prices however as it is some time since I last made a batch and they were uneconomic to make with the work input.

Hi Barry,
I want to use them on my Q-bodied TA special, don't know if they fit.
Do you have measurements/pics?
