I had a brief opportunity to photograph this remote recently and have been trying to identify it. I have never seen one quite like it before. It appears to have no maker's markings. It looks very well made.
It is currently on an early Wolseley Hornet four speed gearbox (once used for a spell in an M-type) and the shift pattern is the same as a J-type. Like a Derrington three speed remote of the same period it has a gate arrangement but the look is otherwise mostly very different with a much neater appearance.
It does not feature in any Derrington ads which I have seen. The Derrington ad (below) seems to imply the one Derrington product costing 59/6 (almost £3) was adaptable for three and four speed gearboxes and a number of different makes. There is no mention of a remote made specifically for a Wolseley/MG four speed box.
The original gate (not currently fitted) has an appearance not altogether unlike the Derrington example.
The mounting for the M-type handbrake is completely separate.
Has anyone any idea who made this and has anyone seen a similar example?
Sam,it is Derrington, with the makers plate removed on the left of turret, the rivet holes are visible, also the washer filed with a flat. I had this remote on my M type,it was great to use. Nick.
Hi Sam,yes the plate was the same on the 3&4 speed changes. I sold my Derrington unit complete when I fitted a J2 box.I cant remember who to though,. I cant answer why a flat is on the flange, cheers Nick.
