Not a photo of a real MG, but still a photo.
K&R Replicas (white metal 43rd scale model cars and kits) shows a MG M Type police car. Based on a few earlier posts, there might be a pictured or information in the book MG's on Patrol. I don't have the book but would be interested if such police cars really existed and if the K&R colors might be correct.
Link to Sam Christie's reference to the book as it related to the spare wheel carrier. http://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=2424&SearchTerms=police,cars

Reinout, According to my copy of "MGs on Patrol", the Edinburgh and Metropolitan forces did run M types. 2 in Edinburgh and 5 in the Metropolitan force. No chassis numbers are listed, however.

This MG dealer ad shows the Edinburgh traffic police used a M-Type, but without the spare wheel carrier.
The tagline A Masterpiece in Miniature is beautiful and the photo caption states that they find the "M.G." ideal. Note that M.G. is in quotes and that it is M.G. instead of MG

Actually, Sam, if you look carefully of the famous photo of the M-types in front of the office block, you will see that the M and the G are joined at the bottom. No periods, just a bar between the two letters.

When the stylised octagonal M.G. sign was registered as a trade mark on 1st May 1924 there were no full stops, this continued with the octagonal sign in advertisements, however when M.G. was used in text in the advertisements there were always full stops.
M.G. must have had a special key in their typewriters with the octagonal M.G. as letters show that when M.G. is mentioned there is an octagonal M.G. in place. I would love to get hold of one of those typewriters, has anyone got one or ever seen one?

Here is a picture of Edmund Road with full stops in text

Her is the picture of M types streaming out of Abingdon. The M.G. is in an Octagon thus no full stops. It does appear that the M and G are attached at the top and bottom, maybe for structural purposes?

Yes, there was a special type slug. As an engineer for IBM I serviced the machine at MG Abingdon. If I remember rightly it was an IBM Executive typewriter with a peculiar attachment called a hektowriter, which provided a sort of moving carbon ribbon, presumably to save using carbon paper.
