This PA was restored here in Ulster by Bill Sherwood in the 1970s and the car is pictured at the Ards TT 50th anniversary in 1978 being driven by Bill through Conway Square. It is shown on the DVLA website as being untaxed since 2002 but it isn't on the Register.

Does anyone know what became of it?

The Registration number is not listed in the 2016 printed Register but I would have thought the car must survive given the picture is dated as being in the 1970s.

The number also does not come up on the new data base.

Because of the way some of the old register was recorded, not all registration numbers got through to the new register. It may be recorded in the hard copy files held by Dick, but as that would amount to about five hundred files with any thing from one to a dozen or so pages, I don't think Dick will find time to sort through them - but the data should find its way online eventually.

For my part, I can dig into the old excel database when I get home about this time next week, the number may be in there somewhere...if it was ever on the register in the first place!

In case my enigmatic reference to 'the way the register was recorded', above causes concern I should explain that this is no fault of anybody in particular, but if there was a note about a car such as for example'Morris cylinder block' or 'registration number also seen on chassis number xxxxxx' in the relevant box, the new system can't decipher this, so a human being has to intervene. There are many of these and it is one of the things that has been (and is still) causing problems.

Graham

Many thanks, Graham. There's absolutely no urgency on this at all. I'm trying to compile a list of Triple-M cars here in Norn Iron and this one hasn't been seen or heard of for many years. The fact that it's on the DVLA database, but showing up as not taxed since 2002, would suggest to me that it left here and went to GB some time ago. The GIJ number was a then current number that Bill Sherwood was allocated as he didn't have the tax book for the car although one story is that it was Irish registered, hence the 'new' Northern Ireland number back in the 1970s.

P.S. The DVLA show it as first registered in 1987, which presumably was the date of first registration in GB. The date of manufacture is shown as 1934.

On the basis that a negative reply is better than none, I can report that I have no record of this number on any of my records, sorry Simon,

Graham

Thanks, Graham. It must be out there somewhere, but where?

It looks like this car was up for sale by auction by Coys on 24th January 1995 in this eBay listing for the catalogue.

Thanks, Jonathan, that is a pretty impressive piece of detective work. The car must still be out there I would have thought if it was sold at auction in 1995
