Hi Lew Your ceramic image looks very much like it's been derived from a commercial painting by Kevin Walsh. Kevin has done many 'nostalgia' paintings featuring classic cars and aircraft, usually reproduced on jigsaws. His dad, Frank Walsh, used to be a MGCC member and attended our natters in West Yorkshire many years ago. He was a great character and told many tales of his lifelong career as a motor mechanic including working on Triple-M MGs in Leeds as an apprentice in the 30s. I'm sure Tony Margel will have something to say when he sees your posting as the featured M type is thought to be his. Terry. |

Yes, Kevin, that's the one although the couple enjoying their picnic don't look much like Tony and Judith, but I guess that's called artistic licence! Terry |

Correct, Terry, certainly not us - much to neat and tidy. And wearing a hat ! Kevin Walsh is adamant that it is a generic M-Type. However he has managed to include some unique features of my car in the painting - so yes it is 100% mine. I was most upset when he refused to let me have the original. Also I got no royalties, especially as my car was used without my permission - royalties would be very important to rabid Yorkshireman like me !! |

And is it a generic village green too or is it somewhere that really exists. Maybe you could re-enact it to get your own original |

Would anyone dissagree with me that it's a Stiles F Type?

Kevin I am sure that it might be a generic English village scene - but certainly not a Yorkshire village. Something else I am upset about - how dare he transpose my car to some foreign [i:e southern] village. As a cricket fan there is no need for anybody else to comment on that, although I don't think it is Lord Geoffrey Boycott batting - which is a shame.

If Geoff Boycott was batting I don’t think anyone would be silly enough to park their beloved MG so close to the field, Tony !
Cheers,
Chris. |

Chris Sorry for delayed reply - have been away for a few days with the VA. I am sure that Lord Geoffrey would not have plonked a six on to the M-type ! However, close inspection of the painting shows a fielder missing the ball and it is now directly heading for Mrs M's head !!! |

If it was Lord Geoffrey batting, I think the couple would be having a nap!

As a rabid Yorkshireman I am in the Home Rule for Yorkshire - Geoffrey Boycott for King brigade !
As to the dig about his somulent batting, I will admit that he was alittle tardy at times - he was trying to bore the opposition bowlers into submission. And Chris there is no need to embark on a long discussion about his ability to run the rest of his side out - I refuse to be drawn on that one.
I woinder what our transatlantic MMMers make of this thread ?

Tony,
Your willingness to concede the point shows great magnanimity. Needless to say, my own loyalties lie nearer to St Mary's (by birth) and to The Oval (by residence) but I couldn't resist a shy at your wicket after such partisan hero-worship! I do, though, enjoy Geoffrey's curmudgeonly summing up on TMS. For our transatlantic readers, this is the equivalent of Tony saying Babe Ruth walked on water and I'm challenging his unquestioning loyalty based on being born in the same county as his hero (a controversial figure for non-Yorkshire born cricket fans).

I don't really care who was batting, where it was played, and whose M-type is shown. I just like the scene on my ceramic plaque. I only wish I could spend more time there.
