Does anyone have any knowledge of M-type MG1358?
This was my late father's first car which he bought on leaving the RAF in 1946. I have only just rediscovered this photograph whilst going through his personal effects. By all accounts it wasn't in great condition when Dad acquired it. He didn't keep it for long as he sold it to raise funds to pay for my Mother's engagement ring!
I can't find any reference to the car on the DVLA web site.
Thanks,
Neil

Hello Neil
From the Register this would appear to be M type chassis number 2M 1577 which does not appear to have survived. The Registration number is quoted as MG 1358A the letter A is obviously wrong!
Our M expert and Registrar for the M types may have some information.

I think George has got his lines crossed, he has looked up Engine Number MG 1358, not Registration Number MG 1358.
The Register has no record of the M type with Registration Number MG 1358 surviving.

Correct Peter, not on the database! MG 1358 is not recorded in the "Julian Evers listing" either, but similar numbers are about November 1931. Therefore this puts the car build date from about September 1931 at 2M 3135 to end of October 1931 at 2M 3200. We do have some in that period.
If you would kindly send me a copy of the photograph and details, Neil, then I will put it in the records. Many thanks.

Many thanks to all for taking the trouble to respond. I feared the car may have disappeared as I recall Dad telling me that he had made enquiries as to its whereabouts many years ago but without success.
Mike - Will a high definition scan suffice? Beyond the registration number and the fact Dad (W R Richardson) was living in Plymouth when he owned the car I'm afraid I have no other information.
Regards,
Neil |

Squadrons generally had "line books" or some such things, social diaries of the squadron or base and its members. whether your pa and the car would have featured, of course, I cannot say.
RAF museum Hendon might be a place to start if you know either the base or the squadron. If at Plymouth RAF Mountbatten might be it.
Good luck
