I have an original photo of the car and a letter to the factory from the then owner. If the car still exists the current owner is welcome to the items.
Ian, I'm the owner of L0463. It is still in pieces, but I'm gradually getting all the parts together to get the restoration underway. I'd very much like to have the letter and photo, so if you could please email me your address, I'll get an SAE off to you Best regards Kevin
Since this correspondence took place at a very low point in WW II, and petrol was seriously rationed, Mr Breerley was an optimist with an eye to the future!
Interestingly there is no trace of him in the 1939 Register. Was he from overseas?
Ian, From the photograph this car is not a Continental Coupe wich is visible from the windscreen placing. The Continental windscreen is under a sort of overhang. Wich is not the case in this photo. Paul
Good to see historical items relating to cars being repatriated to be hopefully filed and preserved with the related car.
I have seen the typewriter M.G. logo previously and wonder does any of the such equipped typewriters exist and has anybody created an emoji or a font character for similar use in our digital world?
Delivered by University Motors to Capt R P Elwes on 1st August 1933, engine number 760 AL. There is no information as to Registration number or colour but the body is shown as 4 seat tourer! I wonder how the change of body came about? I think the windscreen looks like that fitted to salonettes.
I also wonder if Captain Elwes was related to J C Elwes who was the first owner of J4003?

Richard, It’s relatively straightforward to insert the M.G. octagon when using Word. I’m not at my laptop just now but as I recall you can set up a shortcut such as the letters 'm' and 'g' followed by one of the function keys (I can’t recall which one offhand!) to insert the image file. I used this method for a while when editing our Ulster Centre MaGazine but gave it up as, being image files, the little octagons didn’t move with the text when adjusting formatting which made it all a bit of a chore.
P.S. For some reason I can’t attach an image file to illustrate this. The latest upgrade to iPadOS seems to have messed up image file types.
Carlton were coach builders for all manner of cars. Here are some photos of the F type Carlton cars. I think they have that little bit extra. Ian Ross's F Type web site is the link site. http://www.fmagna.org.uk/- see Carlton cars in list. All the best.
Thanks for that Simon. I shall experiment and also explore emoji when I have time, it would be fun to have a happy, sad or other octagonal M.G. face.
I assume you have taken a screenshot to produce an image file, Apple have changed the file format to HEIC from jpeg, you have now to elect to use jpeg if memory serves somewhere in set up, this also applies to photographs, had me completely confused a few weeks ago and as far as I was aware there was no notice.
Thanks Richard. Screenshots used to be PNG and I would run them through Photoshop Express to convert to jpg. But that no longer works on my iPad and I’m not sure why. So quicker to use my iPhone which happily uploaded the Photoshop Express file which my iPad wouldn’t!
P.S. Even changing the default file format back to jpeg doesn’t make it work with my iPad. Very odd! Simon J J3437
