I recently saw a contemporary photograph of a spitfire fighter plane which was under cover behind an MG, I think maybe a J2. Does anyone have, or know and can publish for me. Thanks

Looks to be a P Type - 12” brakes, curved door tops, semaphore indicators, chassis extension at the rear to carry the spare wheel. Interesting picture, though.

When referred to as a 'contemporary photograph' what does this mean? Contemporary with what?
Because it is black and white the photograph at first glance appears to be a 'period photograph' (WW2) but is it really?
To my eyes the picture looks modern and 'too good to be true' for WW2.
On the right an area is blurred for no apparent reason. Has something too modern been removed?

I think this is the proof:
Note modern hatchback behind the MG.
Car as seen in Spitfire pic.

Sorry Chris, it's a new pic.

Thanks Dave.
It is very tempting to create a 'period picture' but I think there is something unfair about circulating such pictures without a 'health warning'.
A 'great picture' when viewed honestly might really just be 'a picture'.
On the theme of fakes, here is an authentic America Civil War picture -
And here it is again -

Here is a Spitfire........ at Prescott 2019.

This pic first appeared on Aveline’s owner’s Facebook timeline, first in colour, and then as it’s pictured here, including a statement that he had played around with it. |

Unfortunately, the information doesn't usually accompany pictures when they're shared. Audi Tradition have produced several convincing fakes of 1930s Auto Union racing cars which are often shared as depicting Rosemeyer in action, when in fact they're photos of the modern re-creations. Here's one being used by Road and Track!
