Not much to go on, Chris, but I think it is Micklegate in York. I think it's the premises up near Micklegate Bar now operating as "Minster Self-Drive". That location has been a garage business as long as I can remember so it's likely that they are one and the same. Plus there are a few other clues: the slope of the stall-riser, the clear span of the opening and even the internal waste pipes all look like the Google Earth image.

Quite possibly.
HD is a Dewsbury registration mark and Dewsbury to York is less than 40 miles. |

Correction: following John's links it looks like there were three premises occupied by The Micklegate Motor Company. The photo above is of the building on closest to Micklegate Bar which, along with a small building in the middle, is now a pub called the Micklegate 127.
The Minster Self-Drive premises occupy the third building which was also part of The Micklegate Motor Company. This building looks to be living on borrowed time as it may soon be demolished to make way for a new hotel. As part of the hotel scheme 127 (the building in the photo) is to be retained - probably as a "trendy wine bar" as they used to say - but at least it will survive.

Hello, Brian.
Are you a former resident of York as was I ? On reflection, I do remember there being a garage at this location back in the 1960s and 70s.
Regards,
Chris
P.S. How strange, I have just noticed 809 is my old number in The York Force ! |

Chris,
Not a former resident but I worked there for a while on The Mount which you'll know is the other side of Micklegate Bar.
