Lovely period photo of J2772 which appears to still exist. Looks to be somewhere in the industrial North of England about 1950ish? judging from the little girl's clothes. A long way from its original Somerset home-- good tyres though! Simon C.
Interesting for us J2 pedants to note that, despite being an early car (dispatched from Abingdon on 15 December 1932 and first registered on 1 January 1933) by the time the photo was taken in the 1952 it had acquired a complete windscreen assembly from a much later car with the strengthened side supports, external mirror and left hand wiper. Just shows how careful one needs to be when claiming originality on the grounds that a car was bought fifty or sixty years ago so everything on it must be original!
The zigzag tread design on the Dunlop B5 tyres on this J2 became available in fall 1949. Before then the design was rectangular notches instead of the zigzag. I’d love to find a tyre company making that original B5 design.
