Here’s a nice one. Taken sometime around the end of 32 or very beginning of 33. Certainly no later than the end of January 1933.

Very interesting picture. The car on the left front must be a special order as it has a bonnet strap fitted? I think it has the early weaker windscreen supports as fitted to my L2 which was produced in May 1933.
The J1 looks lonely amongst all those J2s!

That’s a J1 immediately behind the J2 with the bonnet strap.

Well spotted!
I guess the cars might be waiting for the bonnets which were being individually sprayed, hence the reason all bonnets bore the chassis number and letters to indicate colour e.g. GR for green, BK for black etc.

That’s a good point, George. It would explain very neatly why all but the cars in the first lane have no bonnets. And in fact you can see the bonnets sitting in the background, painted and ready to fit.
They also don’t seem to have wiper motors fitted
Hands up all those who've spotted the J3 ![](images/icon_smile_big.gif)

It must have been galling to most of the workforce to be daily working on beautiful sports cars which they could never afford to buy themselves.
( I note there is a salonette in the centre background.)

Interesting that a search on this image turns up with it fronted by a green SMEG fridge.
There is more to this story Simon; tell!!

Presumably the original print has survived somewhere. Does anyone know what has become of it?

I believe the MGCC have the original. They've enlarged it and placed it on the back wall of the John Thornley Suite. And a fridge too !

I wonder if the MGCC wall picture is also low resolution.
