Not much better Sam, if at all. However it was a real find for original J1 firewall layout etc. It should not be difficult to work out a very close date too, because very few J1's were finished In those colours.

Based on the colours of cars released before the end of January 1933, date is almost certainly December 1932 or early January 33.
This is a bit better, Sam?

Yes this print is in the archives - been my screensaver for quite a while. None of you have yet noticed that the second car back centre row behind the white J1 is a J3. We have not yet worked out exactly which one it is but are on the case through a process of elimination. Terry

That’s the MG Car Club archives lest anyone think they can find it on this site for a freebie download.
Terry, I did ask if anyone had spotted the J3 but no response!

That photo posted by Cat is of a meeting of the Registrars, plus Dick and Barney. The photo will have been taken by Koen who has done such a fantastic job in setting up the Triple-M Register data base.
Looks as if the Registrar for the F/L/N types is about to fall backwards off his chair!![](images/icon_smile_big.gif)

There would seem to have been only one White/Black J1 Tourer built in December 1932 with the next one not until March 1933. J0433 started down the line on 24 November and was released/dispatched on 30 December to University Motors and registered JJ 6829 on 17 February. It doesn’t seem to have survived.

The J3 is immediately behind the J1 as it has no twin carb set up Regards Ralph |

Interestingly, quite a few do not have their headlights fitted, infact only the J1. Why would that be?

The headlights can be seen sitting on the bench behind the bonnets. Since the headlights were painted to match the cars they may well have been painted along with the bonnets and then fitted in this holding area. Odd, though, that the sidelights, which were also painted to match the car's colour, are seemingly all fitted.

There appears to be no sign of wiring at this stage of production.

The wiring is clearly visible on the J1 hanging down from the wing stays.

but it doesn't pass under the rain channel and through the firewall as far as I can see on this or any of the cars in production.

I don’t think it would be possible to see the wiring under the rain channel on any of the cars from this angle and it’s surely inconceivable that the wiring was left until this stage?
