Hi! Does anyone have any information regarding Jarvis of Wimbledon (Jarvis & Sons).

My great great grandfather was Henry William Jarvis (1841-1905) and my great grandfather was Charles Gabriel Jarvis (1871-1917). I know from my grandmother that Jarvis of Wimbledon was set up by her grandfather but I can't find any information at all as to when it started and why it ended. My grandmother would never really want to speak about it but would only say the solicitor ran off with the family's money??? It's all very intriging. All the location addresses were where my ancestors lived & I would love to find out a bit more but there is nothing I can find. If anyone has any information at all I would really appreciate it.
Kind regards Helen

Hi Helen, welcome, and thankyou for your post.
Jarvis is well known within our cars, and I’m sure someone much more knowledgeable than me will provide information that you are seeking.
Best Regards
Colin

When using the Search function, don’t forget to do a second search with the Archived Posts box ticked. The search engine can’t search both current and archived at the same time.

Good luck.

Hi Helen,

The 2011 Triple-M Register Yearbook has an article on Jarvis by Rob Dunsterville. Well worth a read. I think you can still obtain copies of said Yearbook through the Register's library?!

Thank you all so much for this information. I received a copy of the 2011 Triple-M Register Yearbook (thanks for the link Rich Stott) & read the Jarvis article. So my Grandmother was actually correct in saying that the family solicitor was involved ... whether he ran off with all the family money I'll never know??? From this article I managed to find out who the solicitor was & even have photos. I'll continue to delve .....

Many thanks all

Helen,

Here is an original plaque that would have been mounted to the dashboard of one of the cars supplied by Jarvis. These days you get a sticker in the back window but in the 1930’s they did things a little better.

Hi Helen.....I have only just picked up this thread and pleased to see you have read my article in the 2011 Yearbook. That was based on virtually the same text as I wrote as far back as 1974* that was published as a limited print run/distribution book called MG World 1975 under Dick Knudson as editor and publisher. He was the co-founder of the New England MG T Register in USA. * I was living in Wimbledon at that time.
I would be most appreciative if you are willing to share any additional and relevant information on Jarvis you have collected. I am not sure how many MGs were bodied by Jarvis or the survival rate. As I only questioned Pat Walters about the MGs I did not ask or learn about the Jarvis bodies on other cars.
Warmest regards,
Rob Dunsterville, Newcastle, Australia

Rob

Hello Dave
I saw your photo on this thread and would much appreciate a copy by email if that's possible. robertanddenny@gmail.com
I wrote the story in the 2011 Yearbook.
Thanks very much,

Rob
