As a matter of interest I attach below a page from the racing programme for the Pre 1955 handicap race and also the results.

Interesting to see so many familiar faces and also sad to note how many of them have sadly passed away.

Oh to be so young and fit!

Very interesting, thanks George. Did you notice the weather conditions: “overcats”! Also, does anyone have any knowledge of Mr Reed H Yates the third, sounds American but listed as Brentwood, which I assume is the one in Essex.

Reed Yates is an American currently living (and has been for as long as I've known him) in Texas, USA.

Reed was very active in the UK in those far off days.

As Lew notes he lives in Texas and we have him as still owning a supercharged N type fitted with cycle wings and lightweight 2 seat slab tank body. He is also listed as owning a J2 with the note 2 seat racing.

I recall the weather was overcast and damp. I drove the PB to and from Silverstone. The car is now owned by Mike Dowley who converted it into a pure racer and enjoyed such success over many years.

Hello, George.
I thought Mike had sold the PB some years ago?

As Lew says, Reed Yates is a proud Texan and has been so for many years. He and his wife frequently came over to the U.K. for their summer holidays and Reed kept his NA over here (presumably at the Brentwood address). I last saw them both at Brands Hatch only a few years ago.

So far as the weather conditions at Silverstone in 1987 are concerned the ground was certainly soggy and damp, but I thought that was more to do with the rainfall rather than an unusual layer of cats underfoot.

Len's J2 was pretty damn quick for an unblown car. Me: black flagged for dropping oil....

No he’s still got the PB but if anyone is interested in racing it again I believe he would be open to offers . It does run on methanol not sure how many of the current MMM race cars do? Would be a major job to convert back to a road car

I recall Mike did advertise the car in the VSCC Bulletin some time ago and he did have someone who was interested but who wanted the car returned to roadworthy condition.

Photos show as purchased in Cornwall in 1974 and at VSCC Silverstone 1987. I recall I paid about £300 for the car which was originally a 4 seater. The revised rear body was very crudely made and the seat looked like a church pew.

Would you having any more results of MG races? As I now own one of of my Dad's old racing cars that he sold many years ago I would like to try and gather as much information as I can on his past exploits. I can then see what the difference is when I start racing the car.
