Call for Bob Walker, Hello Bob a few days ago I received an E-Mail which pretended to come from you. Since the question in the mail was a bit strange and I would not expect coming from you I did not reply on the topic. A few days later I sent a mail to you on which a request came to buy an electronic wish card for you. Could you please confirm via this forum that these mails came from you yes or no.
This just to make others aware of a potential danger.

Paul,
I had an identical experience to yours and believe others have, too.
I'll be calling Bob in a moment.

Hi Paul, I'll reply to your posting on behalf of Bob, as he only checks out forum stuff every other month or so! Yes, it's a scam. Over the past few days he's been inundated with messages asking what's going on. I know of one person who responded to the email and was immediately confronted with a request for money! There are some not very nice people out there Terry |

I have had one of those emails from a forum member. I suggest if anyone receives an email with any message similar to "How are you", "Do you have a moment", "I have a question" or anything equally vague, do NOT reply and delete the email. I would also suggest you change your email password (and other passwords), particularly if they are something easy to guess, your name with a 1 at the end for example or you use the same password on more than one website. I understand it is an inconvenience but in this world of easy accessibility it is now a necessity. Most web browsers and phones have the facility to remember passwords, so completely random sets of letters, numbers and 'special' characters which you could not possible remember are automatically filled in for you after you enter one master password which only you could figure out. I also received an email which appeared to come from Bob, it even contained Bob’s wife name and his address! I did not reply.
In the past I have received similar messages, one was supposed to have come from Jeremy Hawke.

Yes I have had several enquiries from friends and family. IF YOU GET ONE OF THESE DAFT EMAILS APPARENTLY FROM ME, PLEASE JUST DELETE IT.

I did raise the issue of forum security at the last AGM, told in no uncertain terms to "leave it to people who know what they're doing". 'nough said.....

What evidence is there that this is a Forum security issue. See Nick's comment on this thread - https://www.triple-mregister.org/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=23982

This is not a forum issue. My personal email was hacked including my address book. Quite a number of you were in that list. But a number of my family members and neighbours also received these messages so the addresses cannot have been sourced from this site. It has taken me all morning to sort this out, my apologies for all the inconvenience. "Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition" comes to mind.
