Currently for auction on September 28th

https://auctions.jsfineart.co.uk/auctions/9040/srjs10173/lot-details/70a0fb58-1507-460b-a9a6-b1ea00fef911

"The property of a Deceased estate, the car has been stored for some years as it is now. The car is currently 95% restored from the chassis up. It is presented with, we believe, a full complement of parts to complete including additional seats, spare tyres(NOS) a supercharger, dashboard clocks, upholstery, trim and much more. This car will prove to be a very easy and rewarding winter project."

Check out the bits on the shelves in the background. I see a supercharger intake manifold, complete with op-off valve, and the supercharger and related components among the shelves. However, I would hope that the available photos represent an incomplete survey of the vehicle components. There is a lot missing from view for the whole lot to be "a full complement of parts to complete" this car in a "very easy and rewarding winter project."

Agreed, you'd need to see a lot more to make a meaningful bid. There's a good picture in the register that shows the car in good order so I'm suspicious of why it was dismantled.

And with the seller having to pay commission as well, for a hammer price of, say £9,000, the seller would get £7,848 and it would cost an on line buyer £11,862; ouch.

And the auctioneer would receive £5,014 or just under 56% of the hammer price.I think my maths are correct.£2,862 from the buyer and £2,152 from the seller. Auctions are daylight robbery, I don't understand the logic of the buyer paying a fee. Even fleabay doesn't do that.

The selling commission is banded so it's not quite that bad.

I make the selling commission £1,152 including VAT.

Maybe, but most buyers bid up to the total price that they can afford including the commission, meaning that the amount received by the vendor (or in this case their estate) is net of both buyer's and seller's charges. So in this case with a sale price of £11,862 (including buyer's premium and online premium) the estate will receive only £8,040 - only just over 2/3rds.
To be honest I think this is probably an example of a lazy Executor seeking an easy way of demonstrating that they received "full value". That the auction house overcharge and fail to market the vehicle appropriately is not their problem, and the beneficiaries lose out.

Duncan, you have neglected the VAT on the selling commission, thus the seller would only receive £7,848.

I do agree with the "lazy executor" possibility.

Sold for £9,600 + premium (so £12,134 if in person). Vendor only gets £8,620.

Someone has got a major project but with some very good parts at a cheap price. I hope that it gets rebuilt rather than broken.
